Iowa-American Water Company (Iowa-American) filed customer notices with the IUB on April 25 regarding its proposed water and sewer rate increases. The notices, filed in Docket No. RPU-2024-0002, include locations for in-person consumer comment meetings for which the IUB previously approved dates in an April 8, 2024 order.

The April 8 order required Iowa-American to file its final notices with the IUB no later than five days prior to sending the notices to customers, and include final and updated cost figures and cost percentages.

The consumer comment meetings are scheduled as follows:

  • Clinton: 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, Wild Rose Casino, 777 Wild Rose Drive
  • Bettendorf: 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, Waterfront Convention Center, 2021 State St.
  • Virtual: Noon Thursday, August 8. The virtual meeting details are available on the IUB's online hearing and meeting calendar at iub.iowa.gov.

Iowa-American plans to implement a temporary rate increase 10 days after filing its application with the IUB on May 1, 2024.

During each consumer comment meeting, Iowa-American will provide a presentation about its rate proposal, including the requested rate increase amounts and an overview of the changes that apply to residential and other consumer classes.

The consumer comment meetings also will allow Iowa-American customers to express their views about the proposed rate increases and comment on the overall quality of Iowa-American’s service.

Representatives of Iowa-American, the IUB, and the Office of Consumer Advocate (OCA), a division of the Iowa Department of Justice, will be present at all consumer comment meetings to hear public comments and answer questions. OCA represents the general interests of customers in all IUB proceedings.

Persons with disabilities requiring assistive services or devices to observe or participate in a consumer comment meeting should contact the IUB at 515-725-7300 or customer@iub.iowa.gov at least five days in advance of the scheduled date to request arrangements.

Written comments and objections can be submitted by email, by using the IUB’s online form, or by postal mail to the Iowa Utilities Board, Docket No. RPU-2024-0002, 1375 E. Court Ave., Des Moines, IA 50319-0069.

All comments provided at the public meetings or submitted in writing to the IUB will become part of the permanent record in the rate case docket.

Publicly filed documents for this rate case are available for review in the IUB’s electronic filing system, efs.iowa.gov, under Docket No. RPU-2024-0002.
