Customer Comment Hearings Held for Liberty Utilities Natural Gas Rate Increase Request
Customer comment hearings to be held April 22 and April 27, 2021
(Des Moines) — The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) issued an order today establishing a procedural schedule, a hearing date, and COVID-19 protocols regarding Liberty Utilities’ (Liberty) application seeking an increase in its customer natural gas utility rates and charges. The IUB has scheduled two consumer comment hearings for Liberty’s customers to express their views about the upcoming rate case and the general quality of service provided. As part of this process, the first consumer comment hearing will be held in Keokuk. The second hearing will be held virtually for those unable or not wishing to attend in person. The consumer comment hearing dates are:
- Keokuk, Iowa – 5:30 p.m. April 22, 2021, at the Grand Theatre, 26 N. Sixth St.
- Virtual Only – 5:30 p.m. April 27, 2021 – Information regarding how customers can register for the webinar will be available on the IUB website at iub.iowa.gov.
Due to COVID-19, the IUB will require that attendees at the in-person customer comment hearings maintain six-foot social distance and wear masks or face shields, and attendees will be subject to having temperatures taken upon entry. Masks, disinfectants, and gloves will also be available. The IUB asks that you attend the virtual comment hearing in the event that any of the following apply to you:
- You have recently been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19; or
- You have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days; or
- You are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (fever greater than 100 degrees, new loss of taste or smell, unusual shortness of breath, fatigue).
Any comments made during a public hearing become part of the permanent case record. The IUB is also accepting written comments in this rate case, with the most effective comments making specific points supporting or objecting to the rate request. Customers may provide comments using the IUB electronic comment form, by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or by postal mail to the Iowa Utilities Board, Docket No. RPU- 2020-0002, 1375 E. Court Ave., Des Moines, IA 50319.
In addition, the IUB has scheduled a public hearing for the presentation of evidence and the cross-examination of witnesses on July 27, 2021, at the Grand Theatre, 26 N. Sixth St., Keokuk, Iowa. The IUB website will provide updates and any modifications to the hearing schedule.
