Iowa Storm Restoration Information

An October 1, 2020, IUB order requires Alliant Energy-IPL to file information about damage and repairs to its electrical facilities in docket SPU-2020-0010. An IUB order issued September 25, 2020, canceled the reporting requirements for MidAmerican Energy and Alliant, which the companies had followed since August 14 on the restoration of power due to the August 10 derecho. Under a September 9 IUB order, electric transmission company ITC Midwest is required to file information about damage and repairs to it's electric facilities. Customers can review the outage recovery data spreadsheet, contact the IUB with utility issues, review FAQs, call IOWA 211, or visit the State Disaster Recovery website

An IUB order issued August 28 in Docket No. SPU-2020-0010 modified the power outage reporting requirements from Iowa utilities and electric transmission companies based on the information the IUB had received since August 14. The IUB appreciates the cooperation provided by the electric utilities.

Customers seeking information about recovery from the August 10 derecho can contact the IUB with utility issues, review a frequently asked questions document, call IOWA 211, or visit the State Disaster Recovery website for other resources. (See the August 19 news release.)

Previously, the IUB issued an order on August 14, 2020, that required specific data be filed by Iowa's investor-owned electric utilities, municipal and cooperative associations, and electric transmission company ITC Midwest, regarding up-to-date total numbers of customers still without power and the estimated time of total restoration resulting from the derecho. The affected utilities had filed the data twice daily to ensure updated information was available to all state agencies, local governmental agencies, and Iowans.

Additionally, the IUB issued an order on August 18 requesting the investor-owned utilities to report by August 20 the recovery resources utilized for the period of August 10 to August 20, 2020, as the IUB continued its examination of the aftermath of the derecho. The companies had reported the number of electrical line workers assigned to recovery efforts and the number of workers assigned to tree and debris removal, along with the name of each company that assisted, its state of origin, the dates work was performed, and the date the crew was released.
