IUB Provides Resources Regarding Derecho Restoration Information

(Des Moines) – As a result of last week’s powerful storm, the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) reminds customers to utilize online resources such as the individual utility company’s outage website or the IUB’s website summary of estimated restoration timelines if they have not heard from or can’t reach their utility company for answers about the restoration of their electric power or other utility services.

The IUB website also has a Frequently Asked Questions document providing utility customers with safety information on storm-related power outages, including restoration and recovery tips.

Customers affected by the storm also will find information about health services, nutrition assistance, shelter, financial assistance, and social programs by calling IOWA 211 or 1-800- 244-7431 for assistance.

As storm recovery continues, the IUB urges customers to utilize their utility for the most up-to- date information. Customers who are unable to reach their utility may call the IUB Customer Service staff toll-free at 877-565-4450.

Additionally, IUB One Call investigative staff reminds contractors, excavators, and homeowners to always call 811 prior to any digging activity — it’s the law. In addition to power restoration, property repairs such as removing trees and their roots, replacing fence posts, and damage to foundation repairs, safety is of the utmost concern. Underground utilities such as natural gas, telephone, broadband, and electrical services may have been shifted or damaged. Calling 811 or visiting IowaOneCall.com will allow customers to schedule location services to mark underground utilities so excavation and power restoration work can then be completed safely.
